BLACK FUTURE
Beats offers creative program to HBCU students
Black Future is NOW.
Beats by Dr. Dre is excited to announce that we’re lending our platform in sports, music and culture to Black creatives from HBCUs. Giving them a chance to come on board to create films, write articles and help design product.
If you’re a current student or recent grad of a HBCU, this three-month, paid program is your opportunity to dive into one of the biggest brands in the world, to be mentored by leaders in the industry, and to express your creativity with Beats by Dr. Dre.
In a world that needs to be redefined and reconstructed, empowering Black imaginations is more important than ever. We can’t wait to put you on game.

Branded Content Creator
This is an opportunity to lean into Beats’ creative spirit by supporting the most talented filmmakers at HBCUs. This project puts the next generation of filmmakers in the driver’s seat. It is through their lens and stories that we challenge the boundaries of branded content. Ultimately, Beats is looking to identify 1-2 filmmakers currently enrolled in a HBCU or a recent 2020 HBCU graduate, to produce a 3-7 minute short film. The final film, once approved internally, will be featured on Beats’ digital/social channels.
IRL Creator
This is an opportunity to lean into Beats’ creative spirit by supporting the most talented content creators at HBCUs. “IRL” (IN REAL LIFE) showcases raw and more intimate moments with our talent — including artists, athletes, and creators from around the world. This content can be photos with talent naturally using product and/or video interviews with talent speaking about the importance of music in their lives, featuring product when appropriate. IRL represents the bulk of Beats’ Instagram grid and can be used to support talent moments or everyday moments that followers can relate to. Ultimately, Beats is looking to identify IRL creators either currently enrolled in a HBCU or recent 2020 HBCU graduates. These creators will produce a curated content piece to be showcased on Beats’ social channels. Creators will be given a monthly brief that speaks to a particular theme, and the IRL creator’s work will then be highlighted and shared with the world.
Customs Creator
The Customs Product team will commission one (1) individual who will develop an idea for Beats 2021 Black History Month custom product. This creator will be responsible for gathering and presenting insights that lead to a final headphone and packaging design for the BHM product. In addition to developing both the custom product and packaging, the individual will also be asked to present recommendations for a product seeding plan.
Sports Editorial Content Creator
Are you interested in being a journalist? Do you love sports, music, and culture? Are you self-motivated and eager to learn? The Sports Editorial team is looking for one (1) individual from an HBCU (current student or Recent grad) to help us create engaging journalistic content spanning sports, music, and culture. You’ll join in and conduct interviews, write articles and email newsletters, and other content that will be featured on www.beatsbydre.com.
The Editorial Content Creator will also work with the Sports Marketing team on various projects that build and deepen relationships with new talent.
